Pain, swelling and reduced movement can occur with a sprain or strain, but similar symptoms can come from a more significant injury.
What the video visit can help with
Explain exactly how the injury happened, where it hurts and whether you can use the affected area. Mention numbness, an open wound or a change in appearance. Do not force a movement that hurts to demonstrate it on camera.
When an examination or testing may be needed
An X-ray, wound assessment, stitches or other hands-on treatment cannot be provided through a video call. A clinician may direct you to an appropriate in-person service instead.
Discussing treatment
For concerns suitable for video, discuss the next steps, symptom care and when to be rechecked. The value of the visit is choosing appropriate care, not promising that an injury can be fully treated remotely.
When to get care in person
A visibly deformed limb, loss of feeling, uncontrolled bleeding, a deep wound or a significant head injury needs urgent in-person care. Call emergency services for a serious or life-threatening injury.
